Paving team fully satisfied with SUPER 1803-1

Boom Construction Co. from Doha relied on a wheeled VÖGELE SUPER 1803-1 paver for building a municipal arterial road in Qatar. And that for good reason: VÖGELE technology had already proven its worth in the construction of the Bahrain Formula 1 circuit and results have been so excellent that in the region, lights are on green more and more often for VÖGELE equipment.

The project to be tackled was building of a 3km arterial road. Within 4 days, Boom Construction laid 8,500 tonnes of mix for wearing course. The paving team built the carriageway in strips of varying widths between 4 and 5m and a layer thickness of 4 to 5cm. The overall width of the roadway was between 11.35 and 18m. On this project, contractor Boom Construction’s new paver did an excellent job. The paver features a maximum pave width of 8m and handles laydown rates up to 700 tonnes of asphalt an hour. Pave speed is up to 18m/min. and travel speed up to 20km/h – a real advantage as for transfer of the paver from one site to another no trucking is required on low-bed trailer. Thanks to ErgoPlus, handling the paver turned out to be “absolutely unproblematic from the outset” said Ahmed Al Nadaf, General Manager of Boom Construction.

Past experience with VÖGELE was good

Althouth not stipulated in the road building contract awarded to Boom Construction, “we decided for “hot to hot” paving”, Ahmed Al Nadaf continues. “This way we could guarantee a road pavement of higher quality”. In the region, good experience has already been gained with the technology of the pavers with the yellow canopies. In particular, it was construction of the new Formula 1 circuit in Bahrain that attracted much attention also focussed on the pavers made by VÖGELE. The circuit designed by star architect Hermann Tielke from Germany earned much praise by Formula 1 pilots right after the first race in the year 2004 for its excellent riding qualities.

High-compaction technology also cuts a fine figure in Qatar

Easily comprehensible handling, achievement of high laydown rates while producing an excellent pavement quality and screeds equipped with High Compaction Technology, these are the strong points contractors in the region value on the pavers, summarizes Ahmed Al Nadaf. These also are the major reasons why VÖGELE succeed in gaining more and more ground in Persian Gulf countries.
