With an impressive "green fleet" of machinery, German VÖGELE AG will be presenting almost its entire range of products at bauma 2007, a very extensive one: 13 road pavers, a variety of screeds, and innovative special-purpose machines. The Mannheim-based manufacturer has a number of innovations to unveil at bauma this year.
In the focus are the brand-new machines in the compact equipment class: the tracked SUPER 1100-2 and SUPER 1300-2 pavers and the wheeled SUPER 1103-2 and SUPER 1303-2 models.
Another innovation is „InLine Pave“ for "hot on hot" paving, a technology offered for building pavements featuring both highest evenness and long design life. The new SUPER 1800-2 with SprayJet module offers cutting-edge technology for road rehabilitation. This system allows to economically apply tack coat of bitumen emulsion for paving thin asphalt layers.
VÖGELE's core competencies include the development and production of high-tech screeds. At bauma 2007, the new AB 600-2 Extending Screed will be on show boasting a maximum pave width of 9.5m and sophisticated screed heating.
"Dash 2" pavers now also in the compact equipment class
One of the main highlights in the paving equipment segment is introduction of the new compact-size models made by VÖGELE. The 4 new wheeled and tracked pavers in the SUPER 1100 and SUPER 1300 classes feature basic widths of just 1.8m and total lengths of 4.95m, thus being excellently suited to paving jobs in urban areas and wherever space limitations exist.
All 4 pavers come with the new AB 340 Extending Screed. Maximum pave widths of the wheeled machines range from 4m (SUPER 1103-2) to a remarkable 4.2m (SUPER 1303-2). With the tracked SUPER 1300-2, even widths up to 4.5m can be easily handled. On account of their compact dimensions, the pavers are designed primarily for surfacing minor roads, town squares, farm tracks or combined foot and cycle paths.
Apart from their small size, the tracked and wheeled models display all the quality features that construction companies value in heavy-duty machinery from VÖGELE. As far as handling is concerned, the new compact models are in no way inferior to the mid-range and high-end machines. Like their larger counterparts, the compact pavers are equipped as standard with ErgoPlus®, the user-friendly and highly intuitive concept for easy paver handling.
Powerful and economical drive concept
The machines come with electronically controlled DEUTZ engines rated at 56 kW (SUPER 1100 class) and 65 kW (SUPER 1300 class). Efficient sound-insulation reduces engine noise to a minimum. When working in the economical ECO Mode, adequate for the majority of paving applications, the engines’ noise levels and fuel consumption are further decreased. Like all machines made by VÖGELE, engine output of the new compact class, too, is translated into tractive power with an outstanding degree of efficiency by high-quality, separate hydraulic drives.
Proportional control for conveyors and augers
Despite their narrow dimensions, the material hoppers of the 4 compact pavers hold 10 tonnes, so that a sufficient quantity of mix is available at all times. Thanks to a large conveyor tunnel and separate, proportional control provided for each conveyor and each auger, a perfect flow of mix in front of the screed is guaranteed. This way, SUPER 1300-2 achieves a maximum laydown rate of 350 tonnes/h. To provide for shock-free feed with mix, the machines come with oscillating push-rollers.
ErgoPlus®: The new operating concept from VÖGELE
The compact pavers’ operating stands allows a clear view of the auger tunnel and the building site. Good all-around visibility is a characteristic feature of ErgoPlus®, the innovative concept for easy paver handling. Another characteristic of ErgoPlus® are the paver operator’s and screwman’s consoles of ergonomic design, with large displays, water-proof push-buttons and clearly arranged functions. The smart Memory feature provides for greater efficiency. This feature allows to store last settings for paver functions, so that these can be retrieved right after a move of the paver on site. Another useful advantage of ErgoPlus® is the hardtop of glass fibre reinforced polymer material. It effectively protects the operator whether rain or shine, and folds down for transport in a matter of seconds.
Grade and slope control made easy with NIVELTRONIC Plus
For the new compact class, the NIVELTRONIC Plus Automated Grade and Slope Control System developed by VÖGELE is available as an optional extra. NIVELTRONIC Plus offers to users the great advantage of being a system developed by the paver manufacturer. The clearly laid out user interface is integrated in the screwman’s ErgoPlus® operating console. Like all other functions, NIVELTRONIC Plus, too, can be operated intuitively. An easy-to-learn structure resulting in easy handling provides for a maximum of user-friendliness.
Perfect paving with AB 340 Extending Screed
The new AB 340 Extending Screed has been specially designed to match the new compact-size pavers. It is infinitely variable from 1.8m to 3.4m and builds up to 4.5m with bolt-on extensions. By fitting cut-off shoes, the pave width can be reduced to 75cm to allow easy surfacing of even narrow strips.
For the pavers in the SUPER 1100 class, AB 340 is available in V version with vibrators. AB 340 TV with tamper and vibrators comes as an option for the SUPER 1300 class. The screeds’ electrical heating system is powered by a modern three-phase A.C. generator with Generator Management, adapting generator output to the pave width and supporting rapid heating of the screed to operating temperature.
„InLine Pave“: Two layers in one pass
The „InLine Pave“ technology offered by VÖGELE is certain to attract much attention at the Munich fair. „InLine Pave“ means that paving takes place "in line", in other words, binder and surface courses are paved one after the other in a "hot on hot" process. The „InLine Pave“ concept makes use of machines close in design to those of series production, which simplifies operation for paving crews and enhances productive machine utilization for building contractors, as the machines can be used for conventional paving as well.
The VÖGELE „InLine Pave“ solution requires the teamwork of 3 machines. The core of the system is a SUPER 2100-2 IP coming with a transfer module and a AB 600 IP High Compaction Screed. SUPER 2100-2 IP paves binder course and achieves a pre-compaction close to 100%. As a result, the paver following right behind for paving surface course can drive on the hot binder layer, with no rollers required in between. For surface course, users can opt between a SUPER 1600-2 or SUPER 1800-2. An MT 1000-1 IP Mobile Feeder supplies both pavers with mix. Via a heated conveying unit, it transfers the mix for binder course into the material hopper of the SUPER 2100-2 IP and the mix for surface course, via the transfer module, to the paver following behind.
„InLine Pave“ stands for economical, high-quality paving
„InLine Pave“ offers a number of technical and economical advantages: the surface course paved on top of the freshly laid binder course cools slowly, thus extending the window of time available for final compaction. This special technology allows to reduce the thickness of the surface course to just 2cm. This not only cuts material costs but also increases the stability of the package of paved layers, as binder – crucial for high stability - can be paved in greater thickness.
Moreover, an optimum bond of layers is achieved thanks to "hot on hot" paving. This perfect bond results in two advantages in terms of costs: project costs decrease, as both rolling of the binder course and application of bitumen emulsion for tack coat are entirely eliminated. And savings accumulate in the long term thanks to the outstanding quality of the pavement, which extends its design life. A third aspect is relevant primarily in colder weather and cold regions: as the two layers are paved one right after the other and feature high heat retention, paving jobs can still be carried out at low ambient temperatures.
AB 600-2 Extending Screed for high compaction up to 9.5m
One of VÖGELE's traditional core competencies is development and production of high-performance screeds. With AB 600-2, the German manufacturer is going to introduce a new product at bauma 2007. AB 600-2 extends hydraulically from a basic width of 3m up to 6m and builds up by bolt-on extensions to a maximum of 9.5m. VÖGELE’s amply dimensioned single-tube telescoping system ensures absolute stability at every pave width.
When it comes to electrical screed heating, VÖGELE are proudly looking back at decades of experience from which their new AB 600-2 benefited, too. The new shape of the screed plates’ heating rods, combined with highly effective thermal insulation, results in shorter heat-up cycles, even with the paver's engine running at idle rpm. Another highlight is the monitoring system installed for screed heating. It keeps the paving crew currently informed of each single heating rod’s operating status.
Moreover, VÖGELE optimized the new screed’s design, compared to its predecessor, in many other ways, too. The depth of the screed plates, for instance, has been increased for higher floating stability of the screed on the one hand and easier handling on the other. The new AB 600-2 is of very compact design and gives operators an unobstructed view of the auger tunnel. The screed comes in various versions as far as equipment with compacting systems is concerned: TV (with tamper and vibrators), TP1 (with tamper and 1 pressure bar) and TP2 (with tamper and 2 pressure bars).
New VÖGELE paver with high-tech spray technology
SUPER 1800-2 is a paver which, beyond its standard design, comes in a version for special applications. Addition of the SprayJet module turns SUPER 1800-2 into a high-tech paver allowing to spread bitumen emulsion and pave asphalt almost simultaneously in a single pass. This is an ideal method for paving thin wearing course in an impeccable manner.
Accurate metering thanks to precision control and easy handling
The SprayJet module, in the main, comprises a large heated emulsion tank holding up to 2,000 litres and five spray bars. The spray bars are positioned at the front, the sides and behind the SUPER 1800-2's crawler tracks. Electronic control is provided for accurate metering of the spray quantity, so that no more emulsion than necessary will be spread. This feature saves emulsion, reduces spray mist to a minimum and stands out through eco-friendliness.
Operation of the SprayJet module fits perfectly into the ErgoPlus® concept, as here, too, the focus is on easy handling. Once the desired rate of spread has been set by the operator, nothing else needs to be done. Spray pressure and spray quantity are controlled automatically to exactly match both pave speed and pave width.
SUPER 1800-2, when equipped with the SprayJet module, is capable of paving thin high-quality layers up to 5m wide. SUPER 1800-2 requires only minimal modification for use with the SprayJet module, thus being available also for conventional paving jobs at all times.
"Dash 2" pavers: A big family
High performance, fantastically easy operation thanks to ErgoPlus® and a new, fresh design: these are, in brief, the features characterizing the family of "dash 2" pavers made by VÖGELE. In the wake of the high-end machines, VÖGELE launched four mid-range models into the market last year: the tracked SUPER 1600-2 and SUPER 1800-2 pavers and the wheeled SUPER 1603-2 and SUPER 1803-2 models. All four machines are carrying on the successful tradition of the "dash 1" generation pavers, and their presentation in Munich will be a trade show premiere.
Design award for "dash 2" pavers
The concept of the new "dash 2" paver generation has earned a lot of praise not only from professionals in the road building industry. Quite recently, international designers, too, honoured the pavers. SUPER 1900-2 and SUPER 2100-2 were selected by "Industrie Forum Design", Hanover, Germany, as winners of the “iF Design Award 2007” in the category of "Transportation". This puts the pavers on a par with products like Mercedes CL automobiles or the BMW F 800 S motorcycle. The internationally recognized award is conferred annually by a jury of experts. It distinguishes products that are cut above the rest due to their spirit of innovation, high functionality, safety, eco-friendliness and long service life.
