Superb drive concept: The economical, quiet engine rated at 42kW together with the hydraulic traction drive allow the small VÖGELE SUPER 800 to pave asphalt at a constant speed and with ease on the steep driveway (24 degrees).

Perfect result in confined spaces: Although things got really tight under the roof of the house, the team of contractor Krämer Bau easily managed to pave right up to the existing sett paved area with their SUPER 800.

The paving process can be controlled easily and conveniently from the operator’s console. The console displaces sideways for optimal visibility.

Small VÖGELE SUPER 800 paver surfaces steep driveway.

Hillside buildings have a certain appeal but constructing their driveways is a task that normally takes much more time compared to a level site. The steeper the location, the more asphalt offers itself as a paving material. And when a small VÖGELE machine is used for placing the asphalt, a durable and high-quality result can be achieved within short.

Small VÖGELE paver coping with gradients up to 45%

The driveway leading to the parking area of a private house tucked into a hillside is both a typical and a prime example. The house is located in the "Vulkaneifel", a German region where ice and snow are commonplace in winter. Due to the steep slope of 45% (equals 24 degrees), the owners wanted a driveway from which snow can be cleared easily. For this reason, too, asphalt offered itself as an ideal material, as a smooth asphalt pavement perfectly fulfils this demand.

Quick and accurate

Contractor Krämer from the nearby town of Kelberg solved the problem using the small VÖGELE SUPER 800. Once the sub-base had been prepared and compacted the day before, it took the small paver less than two hours to surface the area of some 100m² on the following day. The small turning bay at the bottom of the driveway, too, was paved with the compact machine. "The SUPER 800 can do it faster and more accurate, and compacts the asphalt much better than it can be done by hand," said Marco Krämer, engineer and owner of the company. Stone paving would have taken at least two or three times as long.

Pave widths up to 3.2m

Combined with the AB 200 Extending Screed, the small paver is capable of placing asphalt, crushed stone or similar materials up to a maximum width of 3.2m, with highest accuracy. Thus, the small VÖGELE machine covers a wide range of applications. And it handles layers up to 20cm thick. The private driveway, for example, was built of 10cm combined base and wearing course.

Practical features for high quality

On the job site, infinitely variable width control of the AB 200 Extending Screed was a great advantage. It allows accurate adaptation of the asphalt surfacing to existing sett paved areas or palisades. Another practical advantage is the paver's excellent material management. The material hopper holds 5 tonnes of mix and is wide enough to receive asphalt from a 3-axle lorry. This simplifies the feed with mix and speeds up paving considerably.

Satisfied owners

“We were surprised by the short time it took to build the driveway”, the owners said. “We now enjoy the high evenness of the asphalt surfacing and the good grip." The long snowy winter of 2008/09 revealed another advantage: even when a great deal of snow had fallen, the south-facing portion of the asphalt driveway often was dry just by solar insolation. And on other days, thanks to its smooth and even surface, the driveway could be cleared from snow more quickly and more easily than any stone paved area.
