Compact, powerful and versatile. The SUPER 1800-2 can be used as a spray paver with the SprayJet module or as a conventional paver without the module.

The VÖGELE spraying technology really comes into its own in municipal road construction. Selection of a precise rate of spread, spray nozzles to be activated or deactivated individually and a fine emulsion film allow spraying along road curbs without getting emulsion on the curb.

The paving process is ideal for all kinds of traffic areas, from cross-town links through to busy motorways. Here, two spray pavers are working in echelon on the German A 9 motorway between Munich and Nuremberg.

Versatile application for high productive utilization

In addition to the standard version, the tracked SUPER 1800-2 is also available in several different versions for special applications. The conventional paver fitted with the SprayJet module results in a highly advanced spray paver capable of spraying bitumen emulsion and paving asphalt wearing course almost simultaneously in a single pass.

With the SUPER 1800-2 with SprayJet module, VÖGELE offer a spray paver that is ideal for placing thin overlay on spray seal or tack coat, hot on hot – a particularly cost-efficient method for rehabilitating asphalt pavements. The area to be re-surfaced is first sprayed with a polymer-modified bituminous emulsion (type C 60BP1-S) before a thin asphalt overlay, just 2 to 4cm thick, is placed by the spray paver.

This paver is also an economical and clean alternative for non-specialized road construction firms. Roads of all classes can be surfaced and a perfect bond between layers is achieved due to the spreading of bituminous emulsion. The modular design of the SUPER 1800-2 allows the SprayJet module to be mounted or removed within just 6 hours. This allows the machine to be used as a spray paver or a conventional asphalt paver if no spray jobs are scheduled for a prolonged period of time.

Uniform spreading of emulsion on different types of bases

One major advantage of the VÖGELE spray paver is the possibility to vary the rate of spread for the bituminous emulsion in order to precisely match the base.

The German Standard governing the paving of traffic areas with asphalt (ZTV Asphalt), for instance, specifies 250 to 500 grams of emulsion per square metre when spraying asphalt binder course for pavements of the Categories SV, I to III, in order to achieve a sufficient bond between layers. The rate depends on whether the base being sprayed has been milled or is highly porous. In other countries and for specific applications, the required rate of spread may by far exceed 1,000 grams per square meter.

The innovative spray technology of the SUPER 1800-2 with SprayJet Module meets these requirements with ease. For example, the rate of emulsion to be spread can be set from 200 grams to 1,600 grams per square meter by simply selecting the desired volume on the spray module’s display panel. VÖGELE offer three different sizes of spray nozzles for different throughputs in order to finely apply the emulsion to the base.

Spraying technology of the SUPER 1800-2 with SprayJet Module

The VÖGELE SUPER 1800-2 with SprayJet Module is available for spray widths of 5m or 6m. Both versions are equipped with five spray bars. The spray bar at the front comes with six spray nozzles and is located between the machine’s crawler tracks right behind the push-rollers. Two articulated spray bars are installed on each side of the machine. The lengths of these bars - and thus the number of spray nozzles fitted - depend on the maximum spray width of the module. On the 5m version, each of these bars has 5 nozzles, while the slightly longer lateral spray bars of the 6m version are each equipped with 7 nozzles. A short spray bar with two nozzles is located directly behind each crawler track. This arrangement of the spray bars allows full coverage of the base with emulsion, without a gap, even if the pave width varies.

Very similar to the function of an inkjet printer, the nozzles of the VÖGELE SUPER 1800-2 with SprayJet Module do not spray continuously but in pulsed operation. The spray pulses are controlled automatically according to the selected rate of spread, pave speed and pave width. This achieves a uniform emulsion film across the full pave width without overlaps.

Clean emulsion spraying in built-up areas

VÖGELE's process also substantially reduces the formation of spray mist. This is because, on the one hand, a very low spraying pressure of no more than 3 bar is used and, on the other hand, the spray droplets are larger. Thus, the spraying technology of the VÖGELE SprayJet system is beneficial to the job site teams, too, as emulsion fumes are reduced to a minimum.

The VÖGELE spraying technology really comes into its own in municipal road construction. Selection of a precise rate of spread, spray nozzles to be activated or deactivated individually and a fine emulsion film allow spraying along road curbs without getting emulsion on the curb. And as the SUPER 1800-2 with SprayJet module paves the asphalt onto the emulsion immediately after spraying, vehicles on the construction site never pass over the emulsion. Soiling of adjacent areas is thus positively avoided.

VÖGELE Extending Screeds for perfect paving results

The SUPER 1800-2 with SprayJet module can be combined with an AB 500-2 or AB 600-2 Extending Screed. Both screeds handle pave widths up to 6m. AB 600-2 has a basic width of 3m and extends hydraulically up to 6m. AB 500-2 builds up to its maximum width of 6m with 75cm bolt-on extensions. Both screeds are available in TV version (with tamper and vibrators) and in TP1 version (with tamper and 1 pressure bar) for high compaction.
