The town planners of Delitzsch, too, were highly satisfied with the result.

Wheeled SUPER 1303-2 paves surfacing of combined foot and cycle path.

Delitzsch, in the German Federal state of Saxony Anhalt, is not the only town to look fabulous in yellow. Indeed, yellow coloured asphalt is gaining in popularity everywhere. On an ever growing number of job sites, urban planners are going for that bright touch in path construction, as was the case for a combined foot and cycle path built in a residential area in Delitzsch.

The contract for construction of the combined foot and cycle path in Delitzsch with a total lenght of 410m was awarded to contractor Ezel Torgau GmbH. Although for the surfacing of the path a special coloured mix was to be paved, work began as with any conventional path. Torgau’s paving team used a SUPER 1800-2 to place base course, bonded with black bitumen as usual, between the previously installed kerbstones. With an engine rated at 129.6kW, the powerful tracked paver handles pave widths up to a maximum of 10m. The machine’s modern drive concept features not only high performance but also economic operating efficiency. Especially when working in ECO Mode, fuel consumption and noise levels are low, an advantage on municipal applications. In Delitzsch, the tracked SUPER 1800-2 laid 8cm base course in 4m width, and its AB 500-2 Extending Screed in TP1 version achieved a high degree of precompaction. As a mix, TS (0/22) C (70/100) RC was used.

Yellow surfacing paved with a SUPER 1303-2

Once the base course had been placed, the paver would usually have needed thorough cleaning in order not to soil the yellow surface course mix and produce an absolutely clean final result. It was a lucky coincidence that just at that time, the contractor took delivery of a brand-new SUPER 1303-2 from VÖGELE’s compact equipment class. So this machine, sparkling with cleanliness, was put straight to the task of paving the yellow surfacing.

No problem when paving coloured asphalt

The new wheeled paver placed the yellow mix type Deucolor W Sabbia i8 without a hitch. The paving team of Ezel Torgau GmbH laid the surfacing on the combined foot and cycle path in a width of 4m. “Even we were surprised at just how smoothly everything went. From supply of the paver with mix through to paving and compacting, everything went as usual,” reported Stephan Portsch, the contractor’s experienced job site manager. The AB 340 TV Extending Screed, mounted to the SUPER 1303-2, achieved an excellent degree of precompaction with tamper and vibrators.

No training required for the paving team thanks ErgoPlus®

The paving team easily got to grips with its brand-new paver right from the start. This was due to ErgoPlus®, the innovative operating concept installed in all „dash 2“ generation VÖGELE pavers. For teams already familiar with a paver of the current generation, there is no need for extra instructions or training.

Tracked SUPER 1303-2 – powerful, compact size

SUPER 1303-2 is the most powerful wheeled paver in VÖGELE’s compact equipment class. In the machine, a DEUTZ engine is installed delivering 65kW at 2,300 rpm. When selecting the economical ECO Mode, engine output decreases to 58kW at 1,800 rpm, which is absolutely sufficient for the majority of paving applications. As the large wheeled pavers, SUPER 1303-2 comes with four front wheels mounted on bogies. This allows to maintain permanent ground contact of all wheels even when travelling on an irregular ground, and ensure a maximum of tractive effort. SUPER 1303-2 is combined with an AB 340 Extending Screed featuring a basic width of 1.8m. The AB 340 extends hydraulically up to 3.4m and builds up with bolt-on extensions to a maximum width of 4.2m.

Wheeled undercarriage for high mobility

SUPER 1303-2 moves quickly on the job site or from one job to another. At a travel speed of 20km/h, the machine easily covers even medium distances. Thanks to the paver’s compact design and a turning radius (outside) of no more than 4.8m, SUPER 1303-2 is an excellent performer also in confined spaces. This simplifies paving substantially, not only on municipal applications.

HAMM rollers for compaction

Finally, a HAMM DV 40 VV vibratory roller, thoroughly cleaned and spick and span, produced the final density. The machine was equipped with the intelligent Hammtronic Technology which optimizes machine functions and, as a result, provides for economical operation and increased productivity.

Highly satisfied

The town planners of Delitzsch were highly satisfied with the paving result. “That the coloured asphalt could be paved in such outstanding quality is great. The yellow path had exactly the appearance we imagined at the stage of planning,“ says Ms Richter, member of the civil engineering department of Delitzsch municipality.
