VÖGELE's launch of two new pavers into the market was a success. The mini paver SUPER 600 and small paver SUPER 800 are highly versatile machines for minor paving jobs including landscaping projects.
Both pavers are ideally suited to classical asphalt paving tasks in inner-city environments or confined spaces, also for construction of farm tracks. Their field of applications, furthermore, includes base of crushed stone or chippings for asphalt surfacing or sett paving. A new system for pave width reduction allows these machines to carry out pavement repairs after backfilling of trenches to a high standard of quality. So it comes as no surprise that meanwhile landscape contractors, too, have them in their equipment pools. With these machines, placing base for asphalt surfacing or sett paving takes only half the manhours which would be required for the manual method. An advantage that saves money.
Compact size
A small track width of just 1.1m and a clearance width of no more than 1.2m allow the slim pavers to easily pass through narrow gates or entrances to factory halls or other areas difficult to access by conventional construction machinery for indoor applications. The machines‘ overall transport lengths are no more than 4.63m, thus permitting easy trucking on a 2-axle trailer for transfer to the next place of application.
Not only does the compact design of the machines make transport easy, it offers a great many advantages for paving, too. When working alongside walls or buildings, for instance, the small machines are capable of paving right up to within 5cm. No need for manual laying, no waste of time. The material hopper, too, has been designed with tight spaces in mind. Even with one hopper side set to a vertical position, ample mix can be stored to optimally supply the screed. On job sites like this, users of machines equipped with an „asymmetrical material hopper“, offered as an optional extra, benefit from convenient feed with mix as an additional advantage.
Powerful systems for paving
Also as regards flow of mix and screed design, the small pavers fulfil all demands made on modern paving equipment. For SUPER 600, the screed comes with vibrators. The SUPER 800‘s screed is available in versions with just vibrators or with tamper and vibrators for high pre-compaction. For either paver, the basic width of the screed is 1.1m. Pave width is infinitely variable hydraulically up to 2m and screeds build up by bolt-on extensions to a maximum of 2.7m for SUPER 600 and 3.2m for SUPER 800. Paving a crowned surface, too, does not pose any problem.
Not only larger but also smaller widths are possible. A system for pave width reduction is available for either machine which allows to decrease width to a minimum of 50cm. This is ideal for pavement repairs after backfilling narrow trenches, a job carried out on a daily basis by civil engineering companies excavating trenches for installation of gas or water mains or underground communications lines.
Both screeds, AB 200 V for SUPER 600 and AB 200 TV for SUPER 800, are heated electrically. The benefit for users paving asphalt is uniform distribution of heat on sole plates and tamper bars of the screed’s basic unit, the extending units and bolt-on extensions. This feature provides for a uniform and smooth pavement surface no matter what the pave width is.
Grade and Slope Control for narrow paths and large areas
As a base for sett paving, the pavers place cold recycled material, crushed stone or chippings very cost-effectively on jobs which may cover an area of several 10,000m². Here high evenness is of utmost importance. Therefore, VÖGELE’s range of optional equipment includes a Laser Receiver for grade control, picking up the beam emitted by a rotary laser unit and transmitting information to the Grade and Slope Control System.
This is how the system works: the rotating beam emitted by the laser unit creates a laser plane picked up by the Laser Receiver installed on SUPER 600 or SUPER 800 pavers. Information is passed on to the Grade and Slope Control System which, within a split second, calculates whether elevation of the screed is correct or not. Should the Laser Receiver on the machine move above or below the laser plane, the error is recognized and a correction initiated. Fitting the receiver at a height of up to 4.5m guarantees uninterrupted operation even with job site vehicles passing.
For the two pavers, a variant of the well-proven VÖGELE NIVELTRONIC Grade and Slope Control System is available, perfectly tailored for use with the mini and small pavers. Just as NIVELTRONIC for the large pavers, it can be combined with mechanical grade sensor (bow or ski), sonic grade sensor or slope sensor.
Low-noise, economical, user-friendly
The user-friendly mini and small pavers are powered by modern DEUTZ engines rated at 40 kW (SUPER 600) or 42 kW (SUPER 800) featuring ECO Mode. Thanks to ECO Mode, the two pavers operate highly economically especially on minor job sites. This Mode reduces wear and involves low fuel consumption. Noise emission, which is low anyway due to the pavers‘ design, is decreased even further. But also when working at maximum engine rpm, the two machines stand out through low noise levels and quiet running. A series of measures have been taken by VÖGELE engineers for effective noise insulation, so that the small machines are ideally suited to application even in noise sensitive environments such as residential areas or in the vincinity of hospitals.
SUPER 600 and SUPER 800 are operated from central control desks. Controls are clearly arranged and provided with self-explanatory symbols so that operation can be largely intuitive. The feedback since the pavers‘ launch shows that even crews of municipal contractors or landscape contracting businesses, usually unexperienced with asphalt pavers, easily got to grips with the machines after just a few instructions. They carried out their paving jobs without problems and achieved excellent results.
Variety paves the way to success
Both pavers are ideally suited to placing most varied construction materials and mixes on minor job sites. The machines come with a host of features specially conceived for small jobs, which allow them to handle much more economically and to a high standard of quality lots of those paving tasks which so far needed to be carried out manually. Everyone who watches them paving will understand the great response these machines received from contractors both at home and abroad. It is the excellent combination of versatility, perfected technology, an extensive package of standard equipment tailored to the requirements of minor jobs as well as an offering of smart options, that made launch of the two VÖGELE machines a success. These two pavers are small in size but big in capabilities when it comes to economical operating efficiency, cost-effectiveness and performance.
