Narrow Cycle Path Renovated Cost-Effectively and Quickly with the SUPER 800

The main application areas of the small SUPER 800 paver from VÖGELE are halls, rural roads and cycle paths or small urban roads. Its track gauge of just 1.1m, coupled with a minimum clearance width of 1.24m, allows laying even with significant space restrictions, as here in Oberhausen. The user-friendly small paver is powered by a 43 kW, low-noise engine with ECO Mode and handles laydown rates of up to 250 tonnes/h.

The days when narrow asphalt surfaces had to be laid by hand are fortunately over. Numerous successful applications of the new small VÖGELE paver SUPER 800 have proved this in the recent past. This machine enables work on small sites to be performed far more cost-effectively and to a higher standard of quality compared with manual laying.

An example from North Rhine-Westphalia shows this very clearly. Wirtschaftsbetriebe der Stadt Oberhausen (WBO) issued an invitation to tender for reinstatement of a 1.5m wide cycle path for a length of 700m. The path was heavily deformed due to the root systems of the nearby trees. The deformations were to be covered with an asphalt overlay approx. 5cm thick. As the narrow cycle path was bordered by a fence on one side and by some 50 trees on the other, the WBO assumed that only manual laying would be possible here.

The Moers-based company Tummes offered an attractive alternative: laying with a SUPER 800. The road builders recently came into possession of a small paver of this type, with which they can pave high-quality asphalt surfaces quickly and easily, particularly on small, confined sites. The offer impressed WBO, and Tummes completed the task with the VÖGELE paver to the satisfaction of all parties. Feeding the paver with Stone Mastic Asphalt (0/5) was carried out easily using an excavator, which took the mix from a feed truck by means of a gripper. The truck had to be driven on the road alongside the cycle path, as the path itself was too narrow for it. In contrast, the machine driver easily guided the compact small paver with a clearance width of just 1.24m and raised right-hand hopper wall through the narrow area between the trees on one side and the fence on the other.

The changing pave widths were also no problem for the SUPER 800. With the continuously extending screed, which is equipped with a tamper as standard, thus ensuring significant pre-compaction, the Tummes team laid the new asphalt surface on the cycle path in widths between 1.25m and 1.5m precisely in accordance with the specifications in the invitation to tender. The residents were also pleased, not least with the fast progress of the work. The entire stretch of 700m was completely laid in just one day – a result that would not have been possible by hand.
