SUPER 1300-2 at work: The new compact class is already proving its worth in practice.
With SUPER 1100-2, SUPER 1103-2, SUPER 1300-2 and SUPER 1303-2, VÖGELE present another four new generation pavers at Bauma 2007 in Munich, Germany. The innovative "dash 2" paver concept includes many new developments and benefits, such as the ErgoPlus concept for easy paver handling.
Beyond that, launch of the new SUPER pavers - two tracked and two wheeled models - raises the bar in the compact equipment class. The newcomers feature excellent manoeuvrability, high versatility for paving tasks and outstanding performance. The maximum pave width of 4.5m handled by the tracked SUPER 1300-2 is unique in this class, indeed.
Compact design opens up a wide range of applications
The design concept of VÖGELE's new economical compact class makes the wheeled and tracked pavers perfectly suited to use on smaller roadways and minor areas or for surfacing farm tracks, foot paths or cycle paths. Due to their compact size, they also are ideal for inner-city applications and wherever spaces are confined. Given the pavers' lengths of 4.95m and widths of just 1.85m, there are hardly any alleyways too narrow for access. Thanks to their quiet operation and eco-friendliness, the use in residential areas, too, is a domain of the newcomers. Though of compact design, all 4 new SUPER pavers display typical VÖGELE characteristics. Among these are precise steering and manoeuvring, clean feed with asphalt and finely regulated conveyance and spreading of mix.
It began in Autumn 2005. With the large SUPER 1900-2 and SUPER 2100-2 models, VÖGELE presented their new paver concept identifiable by the "dash 2" at the end of the type names. The new pavers are focussed on two basic aspects: economical efficiency and user-friendliness.
Equipped with modern engines, the new generation SUPER models are particularly efficient. Above all, highly reliable and powerful paver systems and options provide for optimized execution of road building contracts. Based on an identical and easily comprehensible way of paver handling, training requirements are reduced. Maintenance, too, has been simplified further.
Users welcomed the "dash 2" paver generation with enthusiasm. One reason often mentioned in this context is ErgoPlus, the new concept for easy and highly intuitive paver handling. ErgoPlus also provides for an excellent all-round view of both the job site and the paver.
SUPER 1100-2, SUPER 1103-2, SUPER 1300-2 and SUPER 1303-2 in the new compact equiment class are the members 7 to 10 joining the "dash 2" paver family. And progress goes on.
Economical engine concept, high efficiency
The operator's seat, which can be swivelled out to the side, allows an ergonomic working position and gives an unobstructed view of all areas around the paver.
The new pavers are powered by electronically controlled DEUTZ engines rated at 56 kW (SUPER 1100-2 and SUPER 1103-2) or 65kW (SUPER 1300-2 and SUPER 1303-2). These provide the pavers with sufficient power to cope with any paving task. Noise levels are kept low thanks to efficient noise insulation. Fuel tank capacities, too, are designed for endurance. The tanks in the wheeled SUPER 1103-2 and SUPER 1303-2 pavers hold 105 litres, those in the tracked SUPER 1100-2 and SUPER 1300-2 models 120 litres.
Efficient ECO mode up to most paving tasks
For the compact pavers, 3 modes are available for engine rpm to be selected easily and conveniently at the push of a button: MIN, ECO and MAX. An LED indicates the mode selected.
Depending on the paver type, pave widths from 0.75m to 4.5 m can be handled with the AB 340 Extending Screed.
Easy feed with mix
Though of compact design, the new SUPER pavers never compromise when it comes to feed with mix. 10 tonnes can be dumped by feed vehicles into their material hoppers and oscillating push-rollers provide for smooth docking. Further conveyance and spreading of the mix is optimal thanks to a large conveyor tunnel, proportional control of conveyors and powerful augers.
Laydown rates up to 350 tonnes per hour
As a result, the new VÖGELE pavers achieve high laydown rates. The larger tracked SUPER 1300-2 yields 350 tonnes/h and the smaller SUPER 1100-2 a remarkable 300 tonnes/h. The laydown rates achieved by the two wheeled pavers are excellent, too: 250 tonnes/h for SUPER 1302-2 and 180 tonnes/h for SUPER 1103-2. These are outstanding values in this performance class. When paving along obstacles such as walls, the hopper side concerned can be folded in at the push of a button in order not to impede the flow of mix.
Perfect conveyance and spreading of mix
Like all pavers of the "dash 2" generation, the newcomers, too, feature separate drive and proportional control for each conveyor and each auger. In other words, conveyors and augers are capable of tansporting and spreading mix in a way to precisely match the requirement. Depending on the mode selected, this takes place fully automatically, permitting the operator to focus his attention on other essentials of the paving process.
Efficient routing of cooling air
Machine components, if not cooled, heat up during operation so that overheating of systems may result which cuts service life considerably. This is a fact irrespective of the paver's field of applications. In order to prevent overheating, efficient cooling is of utmost importance above all when working in hot regions or at high altitude. All the more so, as even the pavers in the compact class achieve high laydown rates, indeed. This is why the new SUPER pavers feature highly effective cooling, with the components to be cooled located in an area optimally protected against overheating. This way, paving at ambient temperatures up to 50° C does not pose any problem at all. Like in all VÖGELE pavers, cooling air is taken in by a large cooler assembly installed in the machine's lateral area and routed to paver systems. Eduction of hot air is upwards to the outside.
Perfect match for the new pavers: AB 340 Extending Screed
The new AB 340 is the perfect screed to match the pavers' remarkable laydown rates. The screed is designed for a maximum pave width of 4.5m, achieved when combined with SUPER 1300-2. Further applications are opened up when fitting cut-off shoes diminishing the pave width to a minimum of just 75cm. The AB 340 Extending Screed is equipped with vibrators for combination with the two smaller paver models in the SUPER 1100 class and with tamper and vibrators for the two larger ones in the SUPER 1300 class.
Like all VÖGELE screeds, AB 340 comes with an electrical heating system, supplied by a modern three-phase A.C. generator with Generator Management. Generator Management regulates electric power output as a function of pave width and provides for quick heating of the screed to operating temperature. The large cooler assembly installed in the paver's lateral area takes in air from an environment not within the hot mix' sphere of influence. The external cooling system is certified according to WAT 50 and provides for an ideal temperature of all paver systems. Overheating during continuous operation is effectively avoided.
Easy paver handling with ErgoPlus
The VÖGELE ErgoPlus concept for easy paver handling offers highest user-friendliness.
The perfect all-round visibility from the paver operator's stand provides for comfortable paver handling. The operator has an excellent view not only of the job site and feed of the paver with mix by supply vehicles, but also of auger tunnel and screed. This design feature of the "dash 2" paver generation is integral part of the new ErgoPlus operating concept.
ErgoPlus also includes sturdy consoles with large displays for paver operator and screwman (display on screwman's console only when equipped with NIVELTRONIC® Plus). On the consoles, waterproof push-buttons for paver and screed functions are clustered in logical groups according to job site requirements, thus allowing safe and highly intuitive
operation of the paver.
Memory feature stores paving data
For high efficiency while paving, a "Memory" feature is installed storing all settings for paver functions prior to a break in paving. When resuming work, these settings are retrieved automatically, so no need to make settings anew. This intelligent functionality has a tradition in VÖGELE pavers. The feature had been introduced in earlier SUPER models, where it was known as "Smart Switch" and provided for easy resuming of work after a move of the paver on the job site or on the next day. The "Smart Switch", much apprcíated by paver operators from the very beginning, has also been adopted in the new "dash 2" paver generation under the name of "Memory" feature. The feature stores paver settings and operating mode selected, thus allowing to resume work at the push of a button.
VÖGELE service concept leaves no questions unanswered
As with the previous "dash 2" pavers, VÖGELE also implemented their user-friendly concept for servicing and maintenance in the new SUPER 1100-2, SUPER 1103-2, SUPER 1300-2 and SUPER 1303-2 models. Equipped with a wide engine hood and large hinged covers and panels, easy access is provided to all service points. So no problem for service staff to quickly see how matters stand. Furthermore, all hydraulic pumps are attached to the transfer gearbox. Their clear arrangement and convenient acess provide for service-friendliness at the highest level. A centralized lubrication system automatically supplies bearings of conveyors and augers with the required amounts of grease. All in all, the identical service concept implemented in all VÖGELE "dash 2" generation pavers facilitates maintenance and saves training costs.
Major Features of the New VÖGELE Pavers in the Compact Equipment Class
The paver operator's ErgoPlus console allows to change modes at the push of a button. The symbol "Men at Work" stands for Pave Mode.
Choice of operating modes
All vital paver and paving functions are controlled from the paver operator's console by push-buttons. At the push of a button, the paver operator changes between operating modes (upwards or downwards) in the order as follows: "Road Travel" (for wheeled pavers only), "Neutral", "Job Site Mode", "Positioning Mode" and "Pave Mode". An LED indicates the mode selected.
The Different Operating Modes in Detail
Neutral (Symbol "N")
For warming up the engine and the screed heating system. With this mode selected, all drives are deactivated.
Job Site Mode (Symbol "Rabbit")
For moving the paver on the job site. The paver can be driven at travel speed.
Positioning Mode (Symbol "Turtle")
For manoeuvring and positioning the paver on the job site. With this mode selected, the paver moves at a very low speed. The paver's movement when operating the joystick for traction features high sensitivity, thus allowing pinpoint positioning.
Pave Mode (Symbol "Men at Work")
This mode is for paving. With Pave Mode selected, all paver functions are enabled (while they are disconnected in any other mode). All automatic functions are activated by operating the joystick for traction.
Road Travel (Symbol "Car")
A special feature of the wheeled pavers is their high mobility for travel on public roads at 20km/h. With "Road Travel" selected, all hydraulic rams are blocked
automatically to prevent unintentional operation.
Easy grade and slope control with NIVELTRONIC® Plus
The VÖGELE System for Automated Grade and Slope Control provides the tool for efficient paving on any base whatsoever, true to line and level. Thanks to NIVELTRONIC® Plus, grade and slope control is particularly easy, even in the compact class. Learning and handling the modern system is child's play for paving teams all over the world thanks to the use of self-explanatory symbols. As an in-house development by the paver manufacturer, NIVELTRONIC® Plus automatically recognizes all sensors connected. These sensors can be monitored and controlled from the screwmen's consoles on either side of the screed. For direct access, all key functions of NIVELTRONIC® Plus are located on menue level 1. This way, the VÖGELE System allows to precisely control both the elevation and the slope of the screed by tracing or scanning a reference. Most varied sensor systems are available in order to reliably adhere to the specified grade and slope at all times.
