Over 1,000 road building experts from more than 50 countries followed the invitation to attend the Technology Forum 2005.

VÖGELE Technology Forum 2005 in Mannheim, Germany, Meets with Great Response.
World Première Before Professionals of the Industry
A varied programme, in fact a mix of invited papers, live demonstrations of machinery and live asphalt paving enticed over 1,000 professionals of the road building industry from more than 50 countries all over the world to come to Mannheim and attend the event on the VÖGELE premises. In the focus of the Technology Forum 2005 were the new mini paver SUPER 600 and the small paver SUPER 800, receiving their world première before an international audience. This première even had the weather on its side as spring, too, made its debut with bright sunshine breaking through the gray winter skies.

On the Forum's first evening, VÖGELE really managed to get their international guests in the right mood for the next day's schedule. A welcoming evening event highlighted in a multimedia laser show the company's history and the milestones throughout its long years' existence as one of Germany's oldest industrial firms. In a relaxed atmosphere both Forum attendants and VÖGELE organizers and staff enjoyed the evening as everybody could see.

After a warm welcome extended to Technology Forum guests by Bernhard Düser, Member of the VÖGELE Board (far left), and introductory words by Roland Schug, Marketing Director, VÖGELE kicked off the evening's event with a laser show to get their international guests in the right mood for the next day's schedule.

A delicious dinner was laid on. And the world première of the new SUPER 600 and SUPER 800 pavers, solemnly unveiled on that day, supplied a main topic for conversation.

The visitors from all over the world enjoyed the evening, which could be read in their faces. But also the organizers of the event together with Bernhard Düser and Dr. Christian Pawlik, Members of the VÖGELE Board, and Roland Schug, Marketing Director (middle), had every reason to be happy with the great start of the Forum. Stefan Wirtgen (far right) was glad to see many familiar faces.

Large demonstration of WIRTGEN Group machinery
Not only the two VÖGELE newcomers but large WIRTGEN Group machinery, too, gave a live performance. A WIRTGEN W 2100 milling machine, a VÖGELE SUPER 1800-1 paver and HAMM DV 70 and DV 90 rollers demonstrated in an impressive show and very close to real job site conditions replacement of a top pavement layer. The focus of this demonstration was on VÖGELE High Compaction Technology. Forum attendants received in-depth information about the technology's method of operation and its various advantages, and many a helpful tip was given for practical use in day-to-day business.

PCC: Innovations in concrete pavement construction
An invited paper entitled "Innovations in Concrete Pavement Construction" gave a detailed insight into the latest technological developments and outlined the trends in concrete paving with road pavers. When it comes to PCC paving (Paver Compacted Concrete), it is the screed that plays the crucial role. The screed is required to produce a high-quality pavement surface and a high density. The VÖGELE SB 250 B High Compaction Screed in TVP2 version equipped with tamper, vibrators and 2 pressure bars makes PCC paving an easy and economical job for roads, areas exposed to high loads or agricultural tracks.
Live demonstration of "-1" generation pavers
The modern "-1" paver generation, of which we are proud to say that a VÖGELE client took delivery of the 500th unit a short time ago, was represented by a SUPER 1803-1. The machine demonstrated the excellent manoeuvrability of wheeled VÖGELE pavers. In their classes, all "-1" generation pavers stand out through an optimum in terms of price, performance, reliability and economical operating efficiency.

After the top layer had been milled off by a large WIRTGEN W 2100 milling machine, Rolf Weibel, VÖGELE Sales Manager for the Middle East, gave an in-depth explanation of how High Compaction Technology works. After that the visitors convinced themselves of the VÖGELE pavers' performance. For final compaction, two HAMM DV 70 and DV 90 rollers with oscillation were on the scene.

The live demonstration of the ultimate in VÖGELE technology for grade and slope control and navigation was presented by Hartmut Schott, VÖGELE Sales Manager for Eastern Europe. Method of operation and fields of applications for RoadScan, Laser Receiver and NAVITRONIC® were shown and explained in detail.

Parallel to its various live demonstrations, the Technology Forum offered to attendants invited papers and an exhibition of machinery on the open-air grounds to gather information about the latest developments in paver technology and future trends.

Modern systems for grade and slope control and navigation
Another live demonstration displayed the know-how inherent in VÖGELE systems for grade and slope control and navigation. RoadScan, 360° Laser Receiver and NAVITRONIC® furnished proof of their excellence in practical operation. In his paper, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Jürgen Meyer from the Technical University of Berlin gave an insight into the theories of these systems. He highlighted NAVITRONIC®'s specific capabilities: "For road pavers, VÖGELE NAVITRONIC is the only system handling not only grade and slope control but also non- -contacting navigation."
Where quality begins
Forum attendants, of course, were invited to take a tour of the VÖGELE factory and the motto was: "Where Quality Begins". The international visitors had an opportunity to watch manufacture of SUPER pavers at close range and get an idea of the modern VÖGELE production facilities. In addition, VÖGELE supplied information about its services provided in terms of customer support and parts supply. To round this off, a large number of machinery was on show on the open-air grounds.

On the second day, too, the SUPER 600 and SUPER 800 mini and small pavers were in the focus of the Forum.
They were presented by VÖGELE Product Manager Harald Reufels.

Presentation of the new mini and small pavers
Compact size, easy handling and high manoeuvrability are the crucial criteria for pavers in the mini and small equipment class. And these are exactly the points where the SUPER 600, successor to the SUPER Boy, attains top marks. At the Technology Forum 2005, the newcomer was presented for the first time to an audience of professionals. An outer track gauge of only 1.1m allows reliable and accurate paver manoeuvring even within deeply milled out strips in road pavements, making the SUPER 600 the ideal machine to carry out reinstatement work highly economically.
Small paver, big capabilities: SUPER 800
The wish for a compact-sized machine like SUPER 600 but with higher performance is fulfilled by the new small SUPER 800. Remarkable is its laydown rate of up to 250 tonnes/h. The SUPER 800 comes with an AB 200 Extending Screed in TV version, thus featuring tamper and vibrators for compaction. The screed achieves a level of pre-compaction exceptional for a paver in this class. Exceptional, too, is the maximum pave width of 3.2m.
After the Technology Forum: put to the test in the field
At the Technology Forum 2005 the SUPER 600 and SUPER 800 pavers demonstrated their exceptional capabilities making them stand out in their class. No doubt, the pavers will furnish proof of these abilities in the field, too - on footpaths, cycle paths and on many other kinds of small-sized applications.

The Technology Forum also invited guests to take a tour of the modern VÖGELE production facilities in Mannheim and the motto was: "Where Quality Begins". In the Technology and Service Centre, VÖGELE staff informed about activities and services provided in terms of customer support and parts supply.

Technology Forum attendants watched the new generation VÖGELE pavers in action from close up. When live asphalt paving began, no one visitor on the grandstands wanted to stay seated any longer. The new small HAMM DV 40 rollers, too, had to work their way through the crowd.
