| Interview:
“Co-operation
Based on Concrete”
We talked to Hans-Georg
Schmerer, Technical Manager of Schneider Bau at Heilbronn,
Germany and Wilhelm D. Kern, Managing Director of Steinbruchbetrieb
und Transportbeton Kern at Bretzfeld, Germany, about
the importance of PCC for medium-sized companies and
their experience with concrete and the VÖGELE HPC
screed.
RoadNews:
Mr Kern, Mr Schmerer, you early started specializing
in PCC paving. Your two companies are closely cooperating.
Why?
Schmerer:
We were sure that PCC is a good money-maker even in
times of a not so prosperous economy. Therefore we invested
jointly in PCC despite the difficult economic situation.
Kern:
It was also a matter of combining the know-how. As concrete
producers we have a long years’ experience of
the construction material and Schneider Bau has experience
of pavers. This cooperation is beneficial to both of
us.
RoadNews:
Why do you rely on VÖGELE when it comes to PCC
paving?
Schmerer:
If you are looking for someone who is really dedicated
to a task, then VÖGELE is the answer, especially
when it comes to concrete paving with pavers. For me
as Technical Manager it is very important to have a
partner who cares and feels responsible. VÖGELE
is such a partner, absolutely.
RoadNews: Tell us about the experience
you gained with the VÖGELE SB 250 B concrete screed
for high compaction?
Kern:
We have been looking for a screed capable of paving
concrete, with high compacting power and able to handle
thick layers. The SB 250 B is the ideal solution.
RoadNews:
Does investing in PCC paving pay off also for medium-sized
companies?
Schmerer:
So far, the potential and advantages offered by PCC
are not yet well known among people letting road building
contracts. But all those we could convince of PCC were
delighted with the results. PCC is ideally suited to
use for industrial areas, storage areas and surfaces
having to withstand high loads.
Kern:
In view of the advantages offered by PCC we are certain
that there will be a growing interest in this paving
material, so our investment is supposed to bear fruit. |
