A VÖGELE SUPER 1900 with AB 590 Extending Screed in TP2 Version Paves in Full-Road Width (6m).

Large Roundabout, Manual Work

Reduced to a Minimum

Building Site:

In the course of new construction of the B50 Federal highway, German contractor Schnorpfeil GmbH & Co. KG of Rheinland-Pfalz paved a large roundabout with four access points at Altrich.

Geometry:
Outer Radius up to 20m; Inner Radius 14m

Construction:
The accesses to the roundabout required paving in asymmetrical width, which calls for very precise planning of the paver’s action. The shapes of the sections need to be determined accurately beforehand and marked on the ground in order to ensure building in exactly the right places. At these points it may be helpful to use mechanical shovels and front end loaders to support the paving team and reduce manual work.

Paver:
The maximum pave width was 6m, a job which could have been done by either a wheeled or a tracked paver. The contractor Schnorpfeil chose the tracked SUPER 1900 with AB 590 Extending Screed in TP2 version. For added traction, the SUPER 1900’s Screed Assist function (25bar) was used. This way turning of the radius was no problem at all. Pave speed was 4m/min., the pressure bars operated at 60bar, the tamper was set to 40% of its maximum speed. Steering was by potentiometer. The paver came with the VÖGELE NIVELTRONIC Automated Grade and Slope Control System.
