Maximum Precision with the New Niveltronic Basic
Öhringen is a German town in the northeast of Baden-Württemberg, about 25km east of Heilbronn. The state horticultural show (Landesgartenschau) is due to open here in 2016. This show will attract millions of visitors to Öhringen, providing the town with a welcome occasion to modernize the traffic infrastructure, particularly the three bridges across the river Ohrn. The largest of these bridges is part of the regional road through Öhringen. New 2.2m-wide footpaths and cycle paths leading to the bridge were constructed as part of the modernization project. Paving asphalt on narrow streets is precision work – just the job for the new Mini Class paver SUPER 800-3i.
“The biggest challenges when paving asphalt on footpaths and cycle paths are the narrow widths and lack of space in which to manœuvre. Thanks to the variable pave width, compact dimensions and excellent manœuvrability of the new SUPER 800-3i, we were optimally equipped to tackle all operations in exceedingly confined conditions,” explains Gerd Seitz, foreman and paver operator for Schneider Bau GmbH, Öhringen.
The new SUPER 800-3i was simply perfect for paving asphalt on the generously dimensioned 2.2m-wide footpaths and cycle paths. 2.2m is exactly the largest pave width of the AB 220 TV Extending Screed without bolt-on extensions. The pave width changed continuously as the curb stones became wider, making the rapidly and infinitely variable extending screed the ideal choice for the job. And the new ErgoBasic screed remote control unit ensured full control over all relevant paving functions along with the material handling systems and the sonic sensor for the auger.
Niveltronic Basic, the automated system for grade and slope control was another reason for using the new SUPER 800-3i, since the 3cm layer thickness called for a paving accuracy of ± 2mm. To ensure maximum precision, the automated grade and slope control system is perfectly adapted to the SUPER 800-3i. All wiring and connections are integrated into the tractor unit and screed. This effectively excludes any damage to these components. Gerd Seitz, foreman and paver operator for Schneider Bau GmbH, Öhringen, explains: “Operation of the new automated grade and slope control system via the remote control unit couldn’t be easier. The measured values are always easy to read off the large display segments.”
When not held by the screed operator, the remote control unit for Niveltronic Basic, the automated grade and slope control system, can be attached to one of the magnetic holders on the right and left of the screed or to the operator’s stand so that it is always within easy reach. Mechanical sensors, sonic sensors or a slope sensor are available for grade and slope control. A laser receiver is also offered for paving larger areas. The type of sensor connected is detected automatically by the Niveltronic Basic system.
